First we honour it for ourselves, then it is shown to the outside world so others can honour it through us. The belly dance frees our body and spirit.  It takes the energy of the dancer from Earth to the Sky and back again.

My view

Now  also in Slovenia and abroad belly dances have become more and more popular.  Students come to class for fun, recreation and toning specific muscles. During the hour they spend in class they experience a sense of satisfaction through relaxation of body and mind.

All ages of women and girls participate in class, including those in their 50's and those with various educational backgrounds from college students to directors.  Many also dont dare to dance and are at first a bit awkward but in class they relax.  It is not important that a dancer be slim like a model.  For belly dancing is it desireable that a woman has a little bit of a belly and here our roundness is an asset!  Some people think that the roundness of the female form contributes to its richness.

How  much time it will take a person to learn belly dances is difficult to determine. It depends on prior knowledge, agility, acquaintence with oriental music and various rhytms, balance and coordination and last of all, temperament.

More self confident persons have possibly greater success at mastering the technique, but that does not mean, that the less self confident persons should not participate in class. Just the opposite, because belly dance can bolster and resurrect wavering self confidence.

Belly dance is a womans dance, a dance of life. Dancers  were women who dance for women. Just as we experience different events and moments each day, we experience different events and moments also in dance.

Improvisation of the dance allows each her individual style and the resulting dance is spontaneous and haromious in different environments and with varying audiences in that exact moment.

Choreography demonstrates mastery of certain skills and often times points out that with choreography, a dancer is not sharing the experience derived from within her own personal energy but is only projecting what she have learned. This also depends upon individual interpretation and level of mastery gleaned from belly dancing class.

First we will aqyuaint ourselves with the philosophy of belly dancing of the Romani Oriental dancer Nursel  and  basic technique. After mastering body movements, we will dance to the rhytms of  Balkan Roma and European Rom music, rhytms of the Otoman Empire and Arabian countries. We also improvize  Romani Oriental style of dancing with other rhytms ( afro, Cha,cha,  Waltzer, and also rhytms of Slovene music Polka.)

The difference between »natural eroticism« and »affected eroticism«

I think, that the words already show us a view within ourself. How we present the dance and what is our vision. A great deal depends upon the individual dance costume. We immediately know that exposure of too much leg and breasts and vulgar and coarse movements are an indication of »affected eroticism«.

When we observe a dance that shows us the inner pulse and life style of oriental dancer who has mastered the technique of dance movements and the relaxation and joyfulness of her body we can speak about the
»natural eroticism« which shows in their dance. She is not provocative, has a feeling for her viewers and observes and appropriate amount of personal space where she can safely remain in her feeling of dance energy and at the same time she can safely emote to the audience.. The dance costume can totally cover the abdomen, navel and legs but the artistry of the oriental dancer cannot be obscured. All that comes from inside is also projected on the outside.
